Project

Mississauga Symphony Orchestra

The Mississauga Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1972 as the Mississauga Symphonic Association, an amateur community ensemble. Comprised of a combination of amateur musicians and professional section leaders, the MSO has earned the reputation as the best hybrid orchestra in Canada. The MSO was looking to reinvigorate their brand, still appealing to their existing patrons while also presenting a fresh image that appealed to young adults as well. Chargefield was brought on to visually re-brand the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra from the ground up, starting with a new logo and branding package, as well as all-new print materials and website to keep visual branding consistency strong across all mediums.

Chargefield developed a new logo design system for the MSO that employed a sophisticated stacked justified geometric font as a base for a custom handwritten monogram icon. The handwritten icon was chosen to represent both rhythm and a youthful aesthetic while still being clean and professional. Sub brands were also developed for each of the MSO's special concert series including their youth orchestra, opera and more, employing the same general layout of the master logo, but changing the text and colours to identify these unique programs.

Using the tone of the new branding, Chargefield developed a brand new mobile-responsive website for the MSO that listed upcoming concerts, featured news stories, and explored the historical background of the symphony. The home page was developed as a jumping off point to frequently updated portions of the website - allowing the user to quickly see what concerts are upcoming and also get the latest news in one place. The website was built on Chargefield's own content management system, Current, allowing the symphony to update their concert listings and news stories easily.

Keeping the brand consistent across all mediums, Chargefield also designed concert programs and posters for the MSO for the past 4 seasons. Featuring imagery and information for all of the concerts as well as information about the venues, orchestra, special programming and donation opportunities, the 24 page bound programs employ the same consistent graphic devices, fonts and colours found across all MSO materials.

Chargefield made what would normally be a daunting and detailed project, an enjoyable and productive six weeks. We are extremely happy with the elegant design and ease of use of our new website.
